About the artist

Jacqueline Hammond is a contemporary painter based in Brighton. Her paintings are owned by private collectors nationally. Her prints are popular bestsellers and she is currently considering licensing opportunities. Jacqueline works from her studio and gallery space on Brighton seafront at JAG Gallery 232 Madeira Drive.

Jacqueline has been a keen artist from an early age. Born in Romsey, Hampshire in 1973, she spent her childhood in Devon. Early artistic memories include spending hours watching her Grandfather paint. After completing an A-level in Graphic Design, then a Bachelor of Arts – Combined Honours in Media/Cultural Studies at the University of Birmingham, she always knew she would indeed return to art as her true love.

Careers over the years have included time spent producing documentaries for television, teaching. English and Media/Communication Studies. She also had a gift shop in Devon selling her range of hallmarked silver jewellery. Currently a working artist and business woman she has run a successful internet retail business selling smart sculptural designer lampshades since 2004 (www.smartylamps.co.uk)

Having now dedicated several years to painting she has produced a large body of work. Being a finalist in the prestigious Seeking Picasso competition in 2007 was a great kick-start for gaining more exposure, and now her paintings are being regularly exhibited and sold. Also a keen photographer and having found recent success in exhibiting her photography she describes her use of a camera as ‘a busy mother’s sketchbook’ and never leaves home without it.

Previously represented by art dealer Beverly McNeill at The McNeill Gallery in Hertfordshire, she featured in the ‘Not the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.’ and commissioned to produce a series she titled ‘The Signification of the Poppy’. Taking the traditional poppy field landscape on a topical contemporary slant, the works combine the traditional depiction of the beauty of fields of flowers with the symbolic role of the poppy and its links to War throughout history. This led to a solo exhibition in Brighton’s Jubilee Library. After exhibiting at Hummingbird Studios and Coco Interiors, she is now a regular to Brighton Artists Open Houses and becoming well known for her fresh way of depicting Brighton, her work has proved popular, a best-selling artist at previous I Love Art exhibitions.
